Since 1986, Thompson Thrift has grown from a locally focused development and construction company into an integrated, full-service real estate company with a national scope. The company's history is deeply embedded within our projects, team members, and the communities we serve.
We look forward to sharing pieces of Thompson Thrift's story and taking team members Back in (TT) Time to celebrate our history, past successes, and how Thompson Thrift has evolved into the company it is today.
This Back in (TT) Time feature is about Honey Creek Commons, a commercial development in Terre Haute, IN, that Thompson Thrift completed in 2006.
Thompson Thrift began developing Honey Creek Commons in 2006. The, once vacant, 20-acre site was transformed into 200,000 square feet of prime retail and restaurant space on one of the last remaining undeveloped land parcels along US Highway 41. The development was anchored by an 88,000-square-foot Kohl's department store and housed many other local and national tenants, such as JOANN Fabrics, TJ Maxx, Dressbarn, and more.
Outshined by its success at the time, the construction of Honey Creek Commons was met with several challenges. Since the development was in a special flood hazard area, the team needed to raise the ground an average of 6 feet before construction could start, which resulted in 8,500 triaxle loads of soil being imported, placed, and compacted. Honey Creek Commons had a quick turnaround and was both developed and sold in 2006.
