Towne South Plaza, located along US Highway 41 in Terre Haute, IN, underwent a major transformation when Thompson Thrift purchased the property in May 2004.
The property was originally leased to Kroger, Service Merchandise, and a movie theater. However, after Service Merchandise closed and Kroger moved to a new location further south on US Highway 41, the property was left fairly empty.
With plans to breathe new life into the area, Thompson Thrift wasted no time in revitalizing several of the abandoned buildings. The entire center was renovated, and the movie theater was torn down to make room for new retailers such as Gander Mountain, Goodies, PetSmart, Guitar Center, Dollar Tree, and Buffalo Wild Wings. A new façade and sewer line were also completed in 2005. Towne South Plaza was later sold in Q4 2006.
These renovation efforts proved to be successful as Towne South Plaza is notably one of the largest retail markets in West Central Indiana, serving over a half-million residents through 20 counties.
The revitalization of Towne South Plaza remains a significant moment in Thompson Thrift's history, bringing new life to what was once an abandoned property.
